Based on position of centromere chromosomes can be divided into -
1) Metacentric -
- Here, centromere is present in the middle dividing it into 2 equal arms.
- appears V-shaped in annaphase.
2) Sub-metacentric -
- Here, centromere is present near the middle dividing it into 2 unequal arms.
- appears L-shaped in annaphase.
3) Acrocentric -
- Here, centromere is present near the terminal end with one too-long & one too-short arm.
- appears J-shaped in annaphase.
4) Telocentric -
- Here, centromere is present at the terminal end & only one arm appears.
