Why does a ray of light bend when it travels from one medium
into another?

They bend differently in different mediums due to the different speeds light travels in different mediums. Like in vacuum, light travels at a speed of 3.0 X 10^8 m/s. But in other mediums, this value changes. Hence, refraction occurs..
