The flowering plants or angiosperms whose seeds have only one cotyledon or embryonic leaf are called monocots or monocotyledons. While those which have two cotyledons or embryonic leaves are known as dicots or dicotyledons.

Mango seed is classified as a dicotyledon. Maize, jowar and wheat are classified as monocotyledons.
