['Respected teachers and my dear friends,
1, Sachin, the Secretary of Nature Club stand before you to make an appeal. At the
outset I would like to thank you all for selecting me and having implicit trust in my
ability to take up this position. Our environment is of utmost concern to us today
and it is our duty to preserve it for future generations.
You may ask me what we, as students, can do to conserve the environment. You
will be surprised to know how much we can contribute to this burning issue. To
begin with, we can stop wasting paper and not use it indiscriminately. This will
ensure that more trees are not cut down. We can stop using plastic bags, appeal to
people to carry their own shopping bags when they go shopping. We can ask them
to throw garbage only into bins and not litter public places. Each one of us can
plant a tree every year and take care of it. We can invite more birds to our garden
by putting out bird feeders and growing more flowers. We can switch off fans
and lights when not in use and wherever possible, walk or ride a bicycle instead
of taking a car. The list is endless. All that we need is the right attitude and if we
can take the right step to do what is needed for the environment, we will have a
greener, better, healthier place. Thank you for listening patiently to me.
