Yes, it will work satisfactorily. Lime water absorbs carbon dioxide and hence there is no carbon dioxide for the leaf and hence photosynthesis does not take place and no starch is prepared. Hence on iodine test, the presence of starch is negative and thus proves that carbon dioxide is required for photosynthesis

What you need:Two similar healthy potted plants, two glass plates, two bell jars, crystals of potassium hydroxide(KOH), and a petri dish.

What you do:
1. Keep the potted plants in dark so that leaves became free from starch.
2.Keep some crystals potassium hydroxide(KOH) in a petri dish and place it beside one of plants.
3.Cover the plants with bell jars.
4.Keep the plants in sunlight for 3 to 4 hours.
5.Pluck a leaf from each plant
6.Test the leaves for starch using iodine.
What you find: The leaf from jar 1 shows no change while the leaf from jar 2 turns blue-black.
What is the science? Potassium hydroxide absorbed the carbon di oxide present inside jar 1 . As a result , the leaves did not get carbon dioxide for photosynthesis. Thus, no starch was formed.
