- d–block(transition elements) (n–1) d1–10 ns0–2, where n = 4 – 7
- f–block(inner transition elements) (n–2)f1–14(n–1)d0–10ns2, where n = 6 – 7
- The main difference between d block elements and f block elements is that d block elements are chemical elements having electrons filled to their d orbitals whereas f block elements are chemical elements having electrons filled to their f orbitals.
- If the electron is in s orbital, it means it is nearest to nucleus and if in f shell, it means it is farthest from nucleus. Since, atomic shielding depends on electron density in a orbital and electron density is very less for d and f orbitals, hence it has poor shielding effect as compared to s and p orbitals
- d-block are transition metals and f-block are radioactive elements.
