There is another factor supplementing this that is the transpiration pull.
When water evaporates from plant, i.e., transpiration occurs a pull is created by which the water & minerals from outside the plant root , i.e., from the soil moves in to fill up the space created due to transpiration.
Still most of the water & minerals move into the plant body through osmosis & very less amount through transpiration pull.
