The number of electrons with the azimuthal quantum number,l= 1 and 2 are 12 and 5.

  • The ground state of the electronic configuration of Cr is as follows-
  •  {1s}^{2}  {2s}^{2}  {2p}^{6}  {3s}^{2}  {3p}^{6}  {4s}^{1}  {3d}^{5}
  • l is called azimuthal quantum number. For l=1 the orbital is p and for l=2 the orbital is d.
  • The total p orbital is 2p and 3p and the d orbital is 3d.
  • Thus, the electron in the p orbital is 6+6=12.
  • The number of electrons in the d orbital is 5.
