The Word Problem will be :- In a given rectangle, the breadth of the rectangle is 2 cm longer than the length and given that the area of the rectangle = 440cm.

Find the length of the rectangle.

By taking the length of the rectangle as x cm, we will know that the breadth will be x + 2 cm.

Hence the equation will be :-

x(x+2) = 440.

=> x=20 cm.

Hence we get one of it's answer as 20 and other 22.

A word problem on quadratic equation :

"Product of my age 5 years before and my age after 5 years is  375"

Find the present age.

Step 1:

Assume that Present age = x year

Age 5 years before = x - 5 years

After after 5 years = x + 5 years

Step 2:

Product of my age 5 years before and my age after 5 years is  375

=> (x - 5)(x + 5)  =  375

Step 3:

Solve for x

 x² - 25 = 375

=> x² -400  = 0

(x + 20)(x - 20) = 0

x = ± 20

as Age can not be negative

Hence present age is 20 years

One of its roots is 20.

Quadratic Equation :

ax² + bx  + c  = 0  where  a≠ 0

x² -400  = 0  is Quadratic Equation

a = 1 , b = 0  , c = - 400

A word problem on quadratic equation :

"Product of my age 5 years before and my age after 5 years is  375"

Find the present age.
