I smashed my foot between a rock and the pedal a year or so ago. The shoe ripped and my foot was cut between two toes. It was black immediately. It wasn't dirty. I couldn't soak or scrub the black off. It didn't smell at all.
Doctor told me to keep it clean and let it dry out often. In six weeks the cut was healed.
Black doesn't mean anything on its own. Bad smells definitely mean something is infected. Pus, swelling, and redness are not good signs
