Imposing Higher Fines for Traffic Violation Will Lead to Better Road Discipline:

I support the argument that imposing higher fines will lead to better road discipline. There are many who don't follow very basic rules like using a helmet, avoiding overtaking from left side, driving in the wrong lane, speeding etc. There are several reasons for supporting the above statement:

a) While there are already existing traffic rules every where, people seldom follow them. There is no fear that they would be risking their lives and the lives of several others.

b) In India the ratio of number of police to number people is abysmally low as compared to other developing countries. So at least with stringent rules traffic violations can be controlled to a certain extent.

c) People don't mind paying the fine if it is too low. Increasing the amount may help controlling negligence on the roads and the fear that they would be caught.

Conclusion: It is unfortunate that many people don't feel responsible for fulfilling their civic duties. Hence in my opinion, imposing higher fines can increase road safety to a large extent.

Imposing higher fines for traffic violation will lead to better road discipline

Good morning everyone present; I am going to express my views in favor of the motion.

Undoubtedly, imposing higher fines for traffic violations will lead to better road discipline. In some of the very advanced countries in Europe, this high monetary fine strategy has been in use. The traffic violations are dealt with by deducting high fines from the offender’s salary. The traffic management systems in these countries are so foolproof and efficient that the offenders can’t break traffic rules with impunity. The automated system, which includes high resolution cameras, Government’s access to each and every individual’s income details and the provision of deducting fines from the salary, have phenomenally curbed traffic violations in these countries.

The same strategy can be implemented here in our country too. People everywhere don’t like to pay high fines from their hard-earned money; so naturally they will be much more cautious while plying their vehicles on the roads. The fear of money being deducted from their income will definitely have an impact on traffic violations.

Hence, I strongly endorse imposing higher fines for traffic violation will lead to better road discipline.
