Assembler converts assembly language to machine level language which a computer can understand. this is because a computer understands only 0's and 1's just like we human beings understand decimal number system(0 to 9), computer understands binary values, therefore conversion is needed. imagine yourself in conversation with a Chinese! he won't understand your language because you speak hindi. therefore for this conversation of language a mediator or interpreter is needed to convert your language to Chinese so that the Chinese person can understand.
