The organs of different species of common descent which look different and perform different functions, but have the similar basic structure, similar topographic releationship and similar embryonic origin are called HOMOLOGOUS ORGANS. Example; the forelimbs of vertebrates such asman, cheetah, whale and bat.

The organs which have the same function and are superficially alike but are quite different in fundamental structure and embryonic origin are called ANALOGOUS ORGANS. Example; the wings of birds and insects.

Homologous : having the same or a similar relation, corresponding as in relative positions or structure.
Analogous : corresponding in functions but not evolved from corresponding organs as the wings of a bee and those of a hummingbird.
