nitrogen fixation means to change the atmospheric nitrogen to organic compound by occuring the process of nitrogen cycle.. it done by rhizobium, rhodospirullum, azotobacter, cyanobacteria , nostoc and anabena and oscillatoria .etc
it is important because plant couldn't directly change the atmospheric nitrogen (inorganic nitrogen ) is required to synthesise nitrogen compounds like ammino acids etc..
