Osmoregulation is defined as the way an organism maintains his constant osmotic pressure in the fluids of his body by controlling the amount of salt and water concentrations.

The kidney while removing wastes like urea from the blood also regulates is compostion, that is the percentage of water and salts.

Drinking enough water directly or through food helps the kidneys in their proper working. In moderate climates , as in our country (India), we drink a lot of water during summer.

Yet we urinate in summer than in winter and the urine passed is generaly thicker.

Reasons:

  • We lose a considerable amount of water through perspiration and the kidneys have to reabsorb more water.
  • The kidneys have to absorb more water from the urine so that to make it less concentrated.
