mkfmklfmksaklm: An oxidation-reduction (redox) reaction is a type of chemical reaction that involves a transfer of electrons between two species. An oxidation-reduction reaction is any chemical reaction in which the oxidation number of a molecule, atom, or ion changes by gaining or losing an electron.

it includes two reactions
oxidation: in this process there is a gain of oxygen or loose of hydrogen
reduction : in this there is a gain of hydrogen or loose of oxygen

Those reaction in which both oxidation and reduction take place simultaneously, are called redox reactions.
Example: (i). The copper oxide is losing oxygen and is being reduced. Whereas, oxygen is added to hydrogen and is being oxidized.
CuO + H2O when heated it gives Cu + H20
(ii). HCl is oxidized to Cl2. Whereas, MnO2 is reduced to MnCl2.
MnO2+ 4HCl------> MnCl2+Cl2+2H2O
