Explanation:

Sedimentation is defined as the separation process in which solids are separated from the liquid. All the solids settle down at the bottom of a beaker and on top, a clear layer of liquid is obtained. Decantation is defined as the separation process in which two immiscible liquids are separated.

Explanation:

SEDIMENTATION :::

A Process in which heavier particles suspended in mixture settle down under the influence of gravity and thus separating liquid and coarse, heavier particles

APPLICATION :

In separating Solid Matter in water treatment plants, the solid matter, being heavier settle down

DECANTATION :::

It is a process done simultaneously to Sedimentation, it is to just completely separate the liquid portion from sediments into a separate vessel by just pouring out the liquid by making sure that no sedimented particles come with it

APPLICATION :

Transferring water for further purification from sedimentation tank, (The solid matter settles down, so the water above can separated easily)
