Sublimation is a process in which a solid changes into a gas directly without changing into liquid first. For example: Dry ice (solid carbon dioxide) sublimates into carbon dioxide vapour at room temperature and pressure. The following diagramshows the apparatus and set up of sublimationprocess of ammonium chloride.

In some instances , due to rapid fall in atmospheric temperature , water vapour directly condenses to solid state (snow flakes ). This is called sublimation .
