Answer :

Photoelectric effect -

  • The phenomena of ejection of electrons when certain metals like potassium, rubidium, caesium, etc. were exposed to beam of light.
  • This phenomena is called photoelectric effect.

The laws of photoelectric effect include -

  1. The electrons ejects from the metals as soon as the beam of light strikes the surface.
  2. The number of electrons ejected is proportional to the intensity of brightness of light.
  3. The photoelectric effect is not observed below the minimum frequency which is called the threshold frequency of a particular metal.
  4. The kinetic energies of the electrons increases with the increase of frequency of the light.

These are the results observed by H. Hertz in 1887 when he performed experiment of ejecting electrons from certain metals.
