Vectors are the organisms that are able to carry the alien genetic material into another host cell. Recombinant DNA is joined with the vector and inserted into the host cell. Agrobacterium tumifaciens, a pathogen of several dicot plants, is used as a vector in the treatment of plants while in animals, retroviruses are preferred because it has the ability to transform normal cells into cancerous cells. Vector is like a vehicle which carries the DNA fragments.
