A single-stranded RNA or DNA that tagged with a radioactive molecule is known as the probe which is allowed to hybridize to its complementary DNA in a clone of cells and is followed by detection using autoradiography. This clone has the mutated gene that will not appear on the photographic film because the probe will not have target sequences with the mutated gene.
