Variation is the the error that occurs in species during DNA copying process.
It is beneficial to the species and it also contributes to development because it makes new DNA which give rise to many new variations causing different adaptability features for each individual which gives a survival advantage. Hence it contributes to development also.
The reasons are:
1. Survival advantage
2. Variation causes different adaptation features
3. Variation on a large scales causes speciation.
4. Variation causes desirable characters from any two given sources
5. It helps in the extension of life expectancy of a species and not an organism.
6. Causes evolution of species also
Hope this helps!!
