Colligative properties of solutions are properties that depend upon the concentration of solute molecules or ions, but not upon the identity of the solute. Colligative properties include vapor pressure lowering, boiling point elevation, freezing point depression, and osmotic pressure.

The properties of solution which depend only on the relative number of solute particles irrespective of their identity are called colligative properties.
There are 4 colligative properties in a solution.
1.relative lowering jn vapour pressure
2.elevation in boiling point
3.depression in freezing point
4.osmotic pressure.

The following conditions are required for colligative properties :
1) soln must contain non-volatile solid solute.
2)soln must be very dilute.
