Work is the displacement of an object due to force.

Pushing a box across the floor is work, so is carrying a box. Holding a heavy box is NOT work because you need to use a force to move an object through a distance. Holding a box does not fulfill the distance requirement.

WORK done is the displacement of an object due to force.

WORK DONE = Force × displacement.

SI UNITS = newton.

examples

1. when we push a trolley. ( in this case we applied force in pusing the trolley and the force causes displacement.)

2. when we start a car by applying force.
