The demerits of democracy may include the following: Making the wrong choice at elections and the elected leader is only interested in vote bank politics (corruption) The people at times do not appreciate the power of their vote and do not therefore vote at all.

iv) It is more often than not very slow and wasteful - Decision making take very long and democratic activities such as elections are cumbersome and very costly

v) It is actually a rule by the elected minority drawn mainly from the elites or the wealthy who exercise power against the poor and ignorant masses

vi) In most cases elected representatives lack moral values - They win elections through corruption or just due to ignorance of the masses who don't even bother to establish the moral values they hold such as honesty

vii) Sometimes, incompetent leaders gain power due to poor decisions made by the majority voters whose reasons for electing them have no solid foundations due to mainly ignorance or corruption and bias
