S.I. unit of power is derived below -

  • The formula of power = work/time. The S.I. unit of work is Joules and time is seconds.
  • So, S.I. unit of power = Joules/seconds, which is equal to Watt.
  • Now, 1 Watt will be defined as "the rate of consumption of energy in an electric circuit". The concerned electric circuit would have 1 Volt of potential difference and 1 Ampere of current.
