Rani Abbakka Chowta the first Tuluva Queen of Ullala fought the Portuguese in the 16th century. She was the queen of Chowta dynasty, coastal Karnataka (Tulu Nadu).

• The Portuguese demanded Abbakka to pay them tribute but she refused.
• Portuguese declared war in the year 1555 but Abbakka won the war.
• Again in 1568 Antonia Norouha viceroy of Portuguese came with his army but Abbakka escaped.
• Portuguese kept on attacking Abbakka because they were very much attracted to the wealth of Ullala.
