Consider a group of beetle population living in a mountain region. All the beetles have similar characters. Another group of beetles live a few distance away.
Now there forms a river between these
areas.Now there will be more isolation of the groups.Because of this there is more impossibility of gene flow between the groups.
Meanwhile due to natural selection and genetic drift there will be more changes in dna of the groups that even if beetles from both the group meet.
This leads to formation of new species.
