Effect of rinderpest in Africa in 1890:

Rinderpest was the rapidly spreading cattle plague's disease. Its effects and properties on the Africans are listed below.

(i) Rinderpest moved like forest fire affecting most of the cattle.  

(ii) Almost ninety percent of the cattle were killed.

(iii) African livelihoods were destroyed by cattle loss. People in the past seldom worked for wages who were depending upon their land and the cattle. All of them were forced to work for wages due to spreading of Rinderpest, and so it affected to the economy of this country.

(iv) The colonial government forced all Africans into the labor market.
