When they got buried deep in the soil, they were exposed to very high pressure and temperature. Under these conditions, these slowly got converted into coal. This process of formation of coal vegetation is called carbonization.

COAL IS FORMED BY THE PROCESS OF CARBONISATION BECAUSE IT MAINLY CONTAIN CARBON. THE PROCESS GOES LIKE THIS, WHEN DEAD VEGETATION IS BURIED UNDER THE SOIL IN THE SOILUNDER HIGH TEMPERATURE AND HIGH PRESSURE IT GETS SLOWLY CONVERTED TO COAL.

hajumar10pcgnd5: As more soil deposited over them, they were compressed. The temperature also rose as they sank deeper and deeper. Under high pressure and high temperature, dead plants got slowly converted to coal. As coal contains mainly carbon, the slow process of conversion of dead vegetation into coal is called carbonization.
