The first Mendel experiment is called monohybrid cross.

This is because of the single trait inheritance. In his experiment, he selected small & tall plants & observed the growth of these plants for almost 2 years.

These plants were finally named as “Pure Breeding” varieties.

When the tall plant was cross mixed with the small one, the plants were found to be tall in the first generation & only one parental trait was found.

The tall FL plant was allowed to pollinate & in second generation, both dwarf, as well as tall plants, appeared.

This shows that in the FL plant both the traits were present but only one of them expressed.
