Cell is the structural & functional unit of living organism & is the basic unit of life. 
The term "cell" is derived from latin word meaning hollow space,was given by a english scientist,Robert Hooke who in 1665 observedthin slices of cork under his crude compound microscope.Though he obsreved the cells from microscope so, it is called microscopic.He obsreved that the cork was composed of box like compartments, forming a honeycomb structure and he named the compartments as cells.This is the microscopic structure of a cell.

The cork cells were the first cells to be observed. They were composed of box-like compartments, forming a honeycomb structure. Cell organelles are found embedded in the cytoplasm.These are smaller in size and bounded by plasma membrane.
