The backbone of humans start with a series of bones which start from the neck and run till the pelvis. The main function of the backbone is to provide support to the body and to protect the spinal cord.

The spine of humans is divided into three main regions:

Cervical spine: The cervical spine comprises of the uppermost part of the spine and it is present in the neck. I t comprises of seven vertebrae from C1 to C7.

Thoracic spine: This comprises of the chest section and contains 12 vertebrae in total.

Lumbar spine: The lumbar spine makes up the lower back and it comprises of 5 vertebrae named from L1 to L5.
