calcutta had many distinct features since it was at a sea port but later the british realised that the northern parts had fertile land and due to this many invaders started entering india from the northern himalayas unidentified or captured by the british. so they shifted their capital to new delhi which is located at the centre of indi which helped them take care of each part of india.

Distinct features of the city of Calcutta:

  • Calcutta was developed by the British amazingly well so as to make it the Capital of the country under General Warren Hastings.
  • The distinct features of Calcutta include that it had access to sea ports and was commercial and business hub.
  • But later the British realized that the northern parts had arable land and invaders were entering through north to try take this land.
  • So, they shifted their capital to New Delhi which lies in the center and where it was easy to govern the country from.
