Social

urbanization is a process that takes place as more people move from rural areas into cities to live and work.peoples choices impact urbanization patterns - people choose to live in cities to look for jobs and places to live, as well as better education, health care, job and leisure activities. television, media and other media often promote this view by showing city life (positively) . rural areas/some foreign countries do not offer these opportunities so people move to cities looking for a better way of life

Enviormental

changes in enviorment affect patterns; as cities get larger, land is needed to build homes, buisinesses, stores, hospitals and other services. More farmland is paved over for other purposes, so people move into cities for jobs. Some people don't want to live in the city core, because of the population density and pollution so they live in the suburbs

Economic

economic activities affect patterns

large population = wide range of economic activity + more demand for manufactured goods and services

-causes manufacturing and service, industry to grow/develop making more jobs and attracting more people

Political

people in government and city planners; have an impact on land growth and where land should be developed and where to place things like transportation routes, housing and sewers

Technology

advances in science and engineering improve methods of transportation and communication; workers can travel to work from further distances/ stay at home and stay in touch w/ the office- helps make the expansion of urban areas and creation of satellite communities possible

-fewer people are needed to work in forms due to form technology
