NCERT based Answer for Class 11 Biology Students

Factors affecting transpiration:

 If humidity is high, water is lost slowly into the air as a result rate of transpiration decreases.

 The rate of evaporation doubles with every rise in temperature by 10°C.

 High temperature, influencing closure of stomata, reduces transpiration.

 High wind speed or dry air greatly increases transpiration.

 Leaf with larger surface area transpires more water into the atmosphere.

 Needle shaped leaves of the plants in temperate regions reduce rate of transpiration.

 Leaves of desert plants have thick cuticle and sunken stomata (deep–seated) to cut down loss of water through transpiration.

 Stomata close in water stressed plants to reduce rate of transpiration.
