prior to the revolution the French society was ruled by louis 17 and his wife was Antonnie.
they used public money lavishly
high posts were often sold
the French society was divided into 3 estates and only 3rd estate paid taxes
the French society helped 13 American colonies in war
then Louis found the empty treasury
he increased taxes
the French society needed cost to maintain army, government colleges, schools etc.
