When the solar radiation fall on the earth 's surface, a part is reflected back into the space. Greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide and methane present in the atmosphere absorb some of the radiated heat. These trapped radiation further warm the earth. This is called greenhouse effect.
It is important for life but increase level of greenhouse gases increases earth 's temperature causing global warming.
