The outer ear is called the pinna and is made of ridged cartilage covered by skin. ... The spiral-shaped cochlea is part of the inner ear; it transforms sound into nerve impulses that travel to the brain. The fluid-filled semicircular canals (labyrinth) attach to the cochlea and nerves in the inner ear.

Internal structure of human ear:

Human ear is one of the complicated organs of a human body which aims as perceiving sound as well as maintaining the body balance of person. Human ear has three different parts, out of which the internal ear is the most complicated one.

Internal ear consists of the spiral channel called cochlea which resembles shell of a snail. It has two parts, filled with fluids namely perilymph and endolymph respectively. They are separated by Basilar membrane and Reissner's membrane. The hair cells help in the perception of sound, which is then carried by the auditory nerve.
