the condition of workers untill1840 was very tough and harsh.In 1840 ,urbanisation started in which construction of roads ,drains etc started which demanded labours and hence condition bettered.

condition before 1840:

Long waiting periods- Due to abundant availibility of labour, jobs were scarce. people depended on kin and kith relation in order to get jobs and there were long waiting periods.

shortage of odd jobs between seasons.

unhygenic working condition- as work was scarce and no accomodation faciliies.

inflation and napolenic war- due to lot of investment the taxes increased. price of goods soared.inflation unchanged. wages decreased.

fear of unemployment- due to introdution of machines especially in wollen industry.

2. Few job opportunities.

3. Those who come from villages had to spend the night under bridges or in night shelters.

4. No place to stay in city.

5. Low wages and life become difficult when prices of good rises.
