◼ MAHALWARI SYSTEM

◼ It was introduced by Holt Mackenzie in 1822 in gangetic valley , North-West provinces, Central India and Punjab.

◼ In this system, a collective settlements was made with a group of villages called Mahal.

◼ The villages were jointly responsible for the payment of land revenue.

◼ The mahalwari system proved to be a course for the peasants in the form of improvement, eviction from land and exploitation at the hands of the money landers.

◼ The government demands was very high so it did not bring any benefit to the cultivators.
