Atomic Particles. Atoms consist of three basic particles: protons, electrons, and neutrons. The nucleus (center) of the atom contains the protons (positively charged) and the neutrons (no charge). The outermost regions of the atom are called electron shells and contain the electrons (negatively charged).

Answer:

The answer to the question-"describe the nature and structure of an atom" is-

It is a complex arrangement of electrons and they are negatively charged.

Explanation:

Structure of an atom

It consist of an very small, nucleus which is positively charged and is surrounded by  negatively charged electrons in the form of a cloud . The size of the nucleus is less than one ten-thousandth the size of the atom, and thus, the nucleus contains more that 99.9% of the mass of the atom.

Nature of the atom-

Atom has most of its space as empty space usually. The space which is occupied  consists of a positively charged nucleus , which is of protons and neutrons  which are all covered  by a cloud of negatively charged electrons.

If compared with the electrons ,the nucleus is small and dense compared with the electrons, they are the lightest charged particles in nature.
