Guru Gobind Singh wanted the Sikhs to be protective soldiers and daring person.

He trained them to become a family of brave warriors who could sacrifice their life to protect Sikhism or the humanity.

Thus the principles of Khalsa were laid out.

All the Sikh males were asked to carry  

Kara,

Kanga,

Kachera,

Kripan,

Kesh with them.
