Answer:
- The earliest book printed in Japan was in 868 A.D. called the Diamond Sutra.
- It was a handwritten book of six pages with woodcut illustrations.
- Later, book printing widely increased reaching many circles of people.
- Print was done on cards, leaves, books, magazines etc. Books were also made on nature and women.
- Edo(later to be known as Tokyo) became the hub of printing.
- Kitagawa Utamaro was famous for his printing style of Ukiyo ('Pictures of the floating world). This art style also depicted human experiences.
- These paintings became a source of inspiration in US and Europe, for contemporary artists such as Manet, Monet and Van Gogh.
