Animals use oxygen for the same reasons as humans, to survive! As an animal cell gets oxygen from the animal breathing in (known as cellular diffusion), carbon dioxide gets released as waste. The animals exchange these gases with their environment. [1] The exchange is dependent on the lungs because thats where the oxygen is transported to. Then, the contents will diffuse and the molecules will go to a less concentrated area. Mitochondria provides the energy for the animals body. They get there energy from the nutrients in the food they eat. Oxygen helps mitochondria produce energy for the body, which leads into the cells. ATP, energy in three bonds, begin with a force of energy which releases one bond leaving two, ADP, in mitochondria the energy from the food(glucose) gets recharged and turns back to ATP.
