We once went to a village fair. I was very excited about it. There were games, swings, food stalls and many performances going on. What caught our attention was a little girl, who was no more than 8 or 9 years old, perched on a rope strung across two poles. The rope was at least 20 feet high! What was worse was that as the child was going to walk on the rope, her team members lit a fire on the ground right under the rope. It was very scary. There was no scope for error. The crowd cheered, clapping wildly, hooting excitedly, while the drum beaters did their bit. And then, suddenly the child seemed to lose balance. The pole in her hand tilted a bit too much to the right. The crowd froze. Everyone fell silent. No cheering, no drums, no excitement, just pure fear. And yet when the girl regained her balance, in a fraction of a second, the spectators were delighted. To them it was just a show, but to me, it was an unforgettable life lesson. Amidst all that noise and clamour, I could clearly see how fortunate I was, for having been blessed with such a comfortable life.
