Placenta is a disc like structure which is implanted in the uterine wall for the nourishment of the embryo.
It contains villi on the embryo’s side of the tissue and blood spaces on the mother’s side which surround the villi.
This provides a large surface for glucose and oxygen to pass from the mother’s side and wastes to be passed from the embryos side
