power house of the cell bcoz it synthesis ATP
shape- Rod shape
size -0.5um
-- 1- Several thousand cell in few cells
-- 1/5 of the entire cell will have mitochondria-> few
generally present in aerobic organisms (requires O2)

Mitochondria is the cell organelle which is responsible for the production of energy in cells. The Mitochondria is a double membraned cell organelle, the outer member is smooth whereas the inner membrane is highly wrinkled and folded.
The mitochondria contains small structures inside it called Oxysomes, which is where respiration takes place to produce energy in the form of ATP for cellular processes. Mitochondria is also considered semi-autonomous since they contain some of their own DNA.

The membranes of Mitochondria are structured the way they are as the inner membrane allows maximum surface area for accommodating Oxysomes while the outer membrane helps in protecting the Mitochondria and keeping its shape rigid. (Second part starts here) This structure can be related with the Small intenstine, where the inner membrane is similarly wrinkled and folded to form Villi, which also increase the surface area, for absorption of nutrients from food instead.
