 For example pyruvate reacts with glutamate to form alanine and alpha ketoglutarate.

Transamination helps in the interconversion of amino acid to keto acid and viceverca. On the other hand reductive amination deals with the reduction of a ketoacid such as alpha ketoglutarate to its respective amino acid such as glutamate.
