Despite the difficulty of making predictions, many people confidently make assertions about what willhappen in the future. why do you think this is?

Well, people make assertions  in order to make other believe that they are tells true. If the prediction become correct then they confidently make assertion for the future . Some also do this in order to keep himself or other out of panicking and to keep calm. The prediction may be wrong but keep making them helps to keep oneself to think in a positive way about a particular things. Like a company keep telling it's customer that they are going good in the business or will be better in future in order to keep the costumers within their range and refrain from pulling out.
